FOLLOWING the General Election and the poor showing of Labour and the other opposition parties, one might reasonably expect a time of quiet reflection from the losers.

The correspondence from Ann Sheppard ( Courant Letters , July 17) clearly shows this was a vain hope.

The country elected the Conservative Government for a five-year term. Yet only two months later, Ms Sheppard feels this Government is appalling and argues Guy Opperman’s election pledge is insulting.

More insulting to my mind is her suggestion that 50 per cent of voters in Hexham should already feel discontented with their choice.
