I WAS disappointed to read your one sided coverage of opinion regarding the proposed Co-op convenience store in the west of Hexham (Courant, August 7).

Many families living in Leazes Lane, Leazes Park, Shaws Park and Bowman Drive would benefit from a local shop within walking distance of their homes. They can leave the car at home (environmentally friendly) and take a healthy walk to the shops instead! They may even start speaking to each other and creating a sense of community in the area.

Pessimists always fear the worst, but the reality is that this won’t attract drunken youths, traffic mayhem and accidents. It will just provide a much needed local service in an area with a current lack of facilities.

Having to travel a mile to the nearest shop when you live in a town is too far!

I do agree that something needs to change with the junction at the bottom of Leazes Lane, but that is already the case .
