WHAT makes the difference between a prime destination and just a mediocre one is the experience.

I moved locally 11 years ago, and have elected to stay for life. Hexham was a big influence in that decision.

I actively support local businesses, often at a cost to my wallet. But those local businesses have to provide an exceptional service in order to prise those extra pounds out of my Yorkshire wallet.

In order to compete with major chains and the web, local businesses have to go the extra mile. So many do, but unfortunately I have made the decision to avoid Hexham totally until the bridge closure and the decision to put the lights at Loosing Hill effectively close the town off.

At the height of the tourist season, this amounts to commercial hara-kiri.
