WELL over a year ago, we decided to secure public use of a Dilston footpath by claiming it as a right of way.

This letter is to say thank you to the 50 or more local people who completed evidence-of-use forms for the footpath, which is the farm track that runs from the Slaley road, near Dilston New Town, up past the defunct Dilston WI hut and through the Dilston High Town farmyard to link with the Ladycutters Lane path at the point it climbs Prospect Hill.

There was over 50 years of evidence of use. The officer evaluating our claim said the evidence was strong, and county councillors voted unanimously to have the route placed on the Definitive Map and hence on all future Ordnance Survey maps.

Very commendably, the landowner and the tenant did not object, and one of the households directly affected actually wrote in support suggesting the path might also be a bridleway.

So thank you all; landowners, ramblers, and WI members. An ancient path and lovely walk has been secured for generations to come.

MARTIN and MARGET MOREY,

Corbridge
