HAYDON Bridge fire station will be closed, County Hall will be flogged off, and Corbridge will get the housing it doesn’t want.

The new bus station in Hexham will be built, despite a 10,000-signature petition to say otherwise.

The way our political system works should be of great concern to us. The arrogance of our politicians is beyond belief.

I have seen the way they work during my working life. It is very simple. The leadership decide what they are going to do. They then obtain reports deliberately weighted towards it from in-house and outside consultants.

If it is likely to be controversial they then take us through the charade, nothing less, of public consultation.

They then make the decision they want regardless of petitions and public opinion.

In summary, the public has no say, except at election time by which time the electorate has succumbed to despair and lethargy.

The leadership at County Hall will deny this. Don’t believe them.

They are robbing us of democracy. We and backbenchers at County Hall should be in revolt, as should our media.
