I READ with interest the paper’s latest article concerning the car parking in Hexham.

It is not so much the town council‘s latest attempt to secure an increase in footfall that I write, but more the fact that the article mentioned that there had been a consultation concerning the council’s proposals

Even on a return of 13 which resulted in a rejection of the latest proposal, the town and county council have again gone against the wishes of the people.

It would appear that both councils think the word consult actually means ignore what the majority want, and just do what they want to suit their ends.

As far as I can remember there was no consultation regarding the introduction of free parking in Hexham in the first place.

I await with bated breath to see if the latest attempt by the town council to increase footfall works; but I fear impending failure.
