AS A perplexed Hexham resident, I am wondering when are the councillors going to revert to the previous way of parking at the Wentworth car park; simply pay to park? It worked.

The current situation has been an unnecessary waste of time and money.

Following the original changes to white and red parking there was obvious need for more eight hour parking spaces, so the councillors took the mystifying decision to reduce the existing number of eight hour parking spots to four hours, further exacerbating the problem.

Hexham must have one of the most confusing parking systems in the country. Visitors need the opportunity of more than four hours, business employees certainly do and also all day users of the Wentworth leisure centre for sporting events must also be struggling to park, never mind those who live here.

Does the current system mean that someone who shops at Waitrose in the morning, then returns to park to go into Hexham shopping in the afternoon, then perhaps returns to use the Wentworth leisure centre in the evening will accumulate parking tickets through the day regardless of where they park?

The only object that should be red, white and blue in this country is the Union Jack flag. Return the parking back; as it is forcing people away.
