I MUST reply to your article in which Hexham's MP Guy Opperman was attacked for his supposed lack of support for Prudhoe ( Courant , June 3).

Prudhoe town councillors branded him as "uninterested" in Prudhoe. I think they have got their facts wrong and it is they who have no interest in Prudhoe.

There is, however, one exception - Coun. George McCreedy.

Obviously the councillors feel the MP does not give them any support, but he helped our little group against bus company Go North-East and Northumberland County Council when they were not interested in helping us voters.

For quite a few years, I have been fighting with Go North-East to reinstate the old route (604) on to the current number 10B route (between Newcastle and Low Prudhoe).

The previous route covered South Road, Oaklands and West Wylam estates, not entering Main Road at all. After all, we already have the Hexham number 10 bus to cover these three stops. The only councillor interested, who took up our fight, was George McCreedy.

His perseverance, with the help of our MP, made it possible to obtain over 800 signatures. A meeting followed; arranged by the MP with GNE and a representative from the county council.

All those interested met and had a discussion. As you will have seen, we were not successful - at the moment. I will not give up.

C.A. ROLLINGSON,

Prudhoe
