BEFORE any more houses are built in Prudhoe, consideration must be given as to how their occupants are going to commute to work.

I assume most will be travelling towards the east and attention needs to be focused on to the best way for them to travel. There are two alternatives – public transport or the car/cycle

There are two or sometimes three buses per hour and two trains per hour. Faster more direct commuter buses are required and I can see no reason why the quarter hour Newcastle to Metrocentre rail service could not be extended to Prudhoe. Then we require better bus connections from the population centres of Prudhoe to the railway station

Integrated electronic tickets for a bus to the station in Prudhoe, rail journey and Metro connections are feasible.

Now consider road traffic. At present much uses the A695 eastwards, and more would do so if this road were to be made into a dual carriage way with better connections to the A1.

Any new bridge over the Tyne would require connecting roads to be built and these alone are likely to cost more than upgrading the A695 and in any case the traffic is going to the same destination the A1.
