THE complete destruction of the NHS is outlined in a 2005 book entitled Direct Democracy – an agenda for new model party . Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Health, is amongst the authors.

There is no ambiguity in the text and since 2010 that has been the clear direction of policy. All public services are for demolition and all are to be replaced by private provision.

There is only ideological obsession underpinning this and there is abundant evidence of the harm that is caused. Spending is set to go down from 6.5 per cent of GDP in 2012-13 to 6.2 per cent in 2015-16 and is nowhere near the EU average.

This course of action has been aided by the majority of the electorate in the Hexham constituency, though the manifesto made no mention of it.

David Cameron claims a mandate on the basis of 26 per cent of the electorate voting Tory. This arrogance and ignorance brings new offences against reason and decency every day.

The only beneficiaries are those who make off with hard working tax payer’s money in the form of bloated executive remuneration, dividends and so on – all tax that is not spent on the patients as it should be.

The junior doctors are fighting for every citizen in the land.

I urge everyone to support them and, if we are to have a country fit to live in, we must push the Tories into the political wilderness forever. Don’t let the Tories have this one – it really matters to us all

STEVE FORD,
