HEDDON on the Wall is under siege. I refer, of course, to the decision by Newcastle Airport to re-route departures directly over the village.

This is a calamitous decision, which has often resulted in upwards of 15 hours of flights over the village daily, with a consequent result of increased noise and air pollution that poses a huge threat to public health.

What is the reason for this decision? Was the quality of life of residents considered? What due diligence formed part of the decision-making process? Were full and proper negotiations with the parish council conducted?

The parish council must show proper leadership in this matter to ensure that this decision is immediately reversed. As residents, we should not have our lives blighted and our voices must be heard.

P. WILDING,

Heddon on the Wall
