I AM am sitting absolutely flabbergasted by the latest Courant front page article concerning car parking in Hexham.

It has nothing to do with the petition, which is a fantastic idea, but which will be totally ignored by the town councillors with their record for looking after their own interests before the people they represent.

No, I am amazed once again by the remarks of our mayor Coun. Cessford. “There will be no knee jerk reaction to this petition,” he says.

Sir, we are in this mess because of the town council‘s knee jerk reaction to the chance of implementing free parking in the first place.

Mayor Cessford then goes on to say “changes cannot be made on a whim.”

So is he trying to tell us that clear and rational thought was used when deciding the implementation of the four hour blue bay scheme, which was designed to drive shop employees out of Hexham’s main car park.

Now instead of burying their heads in the sand the very people that have created this mess in the first place, the councillors of Hexham, should all do the decent thing.

1: Have paid parking reinstated in the town, and 2: Then all resign en-masse, so people who actually have the interests of the townsfolk at heart can stand and be elected.
