JEREMY Hunt, Secretary of State for Health, has said that the British public voted for the proposed junior doctors’ contract when the Conservatives won last year’s election.

What rubbish! Yes, the Conservative Party won a small majority but this in no way showed support for diminishing the doctors’ pay or conditions of service.

He is being disingenuous – and in our name. A contract cannot simply be imposed over the heads of doctors and there be no repercussions.

The only way forward must be for genuine negotiations to be resumed; for that to happen the threat of imposition must be removed. If Mr Hunt cannot do that, then perhaps it is time for his removal from office.
