I AM disappointed by the derogatory tone of your opinion piece about returning the lynx to Kielder, particularly the disparaging way in which you refer to 'a bunch of activists'.
By adopting such a tone, you betray the fact that you clearly have little time for those working tirelessly to protect our threatened environment and wildlife.
Perhaps you are not aware (most people aren't) that since 1970, the world has lost half its wildlife population and 33 per cent of all wildlife species have been made extinct over the last 40 years.
This alarming rate of extinction - not seen in any of the other major extinction events in the planet's history- has led many top scientists to say that we are now heading towards the sixth great extinction, which will ultimately result in the loss of most life on the planet.
To adopt such a belittling attitude towards conservationists is foolish and misguided.
In the years to come, we will be needing them more and more if we want a wildlife-rich world.
