Short-sighted

I WAS interested to read your article about Dilston (Courant, August 15), having been born in the maternity ward there during the war.

Although I left the North-East in 1960 to live in London, I have relatives in this area that I enjoy visiting.

I remember childhood holidays in Northumberland but, at that age, never appreciated the unique beauty of the landscape.

With historic sites such as Dilston and Hadrian’s Wall, I feel that it’s very short-sighted that there is no funding for excavation from central Government.

Properly funded, the excavations are a potential goldmine for the future, at both local and national levels.

WILFRED DILSTON GIBSON,
