Family history

Published 27 August 2008

I HAVE a good history of my family going back to 1647 , but it’s hard to get information prior to the 1841 census and past the 1901 census. It's also very difficult to obtain the history of Ritson girls as the census doesn’t record maiden names.

I AGREE with the comment made by a Radio 2 listener who told Monday’s Jeremy Vine Show that whoever had complained about the market stall barkers “should get a life”.

Boy racers

Published 21 August 2008

I READ with real interest that boy racers were the scourge of Tynedale (Courant, August 15) and noted that Prudhoe wasn’t given a mention.

I HAVE some thoughts for those who complaints prompted the written warning sent to traders in Hexham’s Market Place.

Praised for quick response

Published 21 August 2008

I WAS interested to read that the Hexham traders had submitted a report to Tynedale Council’s cabinet on suggested improvements to the town (Courant, August 1).

Ragwort

Published 14 August 2008

MANY supporters have contacted us recently to voice their concerns about ragwort, which is blooming at the moment. As every horse owner and farmer knows, ragwort contains toxins which can have debilitating or fatal consequences if eaten by horses and other grazing animals.

WE WOULD like to express our most grateful thanks to the patients, staff and partners of the Haydon and Allen Valleys Medical Practice for their warmth, kindness and generosity on the occasion of our joint retirement from the practice.

Complaints

Published 14 August 2008

WHY can people like Hextol (Courant, August 1) not tell tradespeople the truth?

Multi-storey

Published 14 August 2008

I WAS very interested to read (Courant, August 1) that Tynedale Council has had the foresight to purchase the pair of bungalows fronting Haugh Lane to provide a rear access to the old swimming pool site in Gilesgate.

Devious plan

Published 7 August 2008

WE have had very inadequate information as yet about the economic considerations involved in the proposals to reduce our network of rural post offices..

Impressions

Published 7 August 2008

NOW that the summer influx of visitors is in full swing, I trust that the independent traders are prospering and meeting the challenge of the major chains.

Lifeline

Published 7 August 2008

PETER Atkinson is a proper gentleman by being prepared to support his voters in their campaign to save post offices (Courant, July 25), unlike other MPs.
