I’M delighted to announce that the jumble sale on Saturday generated the fabulous sales figure of £625 towards church funds. Well done to all who organised, helped with and supported the event.

THE Stocksfield Plants and Gardens Society meets in the community centre on Tuesday, at 7.30pm, with a change to the published programme.

Mandy Oliver, who is the Nectarworks community officer for the North Pennines AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) Partnership, will be giving a talk at the meeting.

Mandy is leading a project which encourages people to stock their gardens with bee-friendly plants. Her talk, The Humble Bumblebee, covers the importance of bumblebees and explains their fascinating life cycle, why their future is threatened and top tips for encouraging them into the garden.

THURSDAY, May 19, is a ladies’ day at the Stocksfield Retired Men’s Association.

The meeting is at 10.30am in the Baptist Church Hall and Steve and Carol Robson will talk on Water of Tyme.

Members are asked to assemble for coffee from 9.30am, as usual. New members and visitors are always welcome.

ALSO on Thursday, May 19, the Rachel Hamer Band is performing in the community centre at 7.30pm, supported by the Stocksfield Stompers.

This event is part of the 2016 Hexham Gathering. Tickets are available from the Queen’s Hall in Hexham, or you can pay on the door.

THE Tynedale Guild of Spinners and Weavers meets in the community centre on Saturday, May 21, between 10am and 4pm.

New members are always welcome, and you don’t have to stay for the whole day.
