RUNNING stars of the future will be following in the footsteps of Prudhoe’s mining history when they take part in a special race on Sunday.

The annual miners’ race was once populated by the coal workers of the Prudhoe district, before the Second World War brought proceedings to a halt.

After a short-lived resurgence for the Millennium, it was revived as part of the London Olympic celebrations in 2012, and is now going from strength-to-strength, with children and adults taking part each year.

Backed by Prudhoe Town Council and Run Northumberland, the SCA Prudhoe Miners’ 10k starts at 10am on the Main Street, and finishes in the Riverside Country Park.

The event is part of the Run Northumberland 10 series, and will operate under UK Athletic rules.

As well as the 10k race, there is a 3k equivalent for 11-16 year olds, and a 1.5k mini-run for 5-10 year-olds.
