HAVE  you heard of the good work of Community Action, Northumberland (CAN)?

It is one of 38 rural community councils across England tackling rural community needs and issues for organisations or individuals.

CAN is currently working with British Gas to look at energy-saving initiatives to reduce household bills.

The range of support on offer includes advice from a community energy agent, a free energy monitor and new, energy-efficient boilers for just £250 for qualifying households.

If you would like one of the 40 energy monitors which have been passed to the village hall trust, please contact me by email or phone as detailed below.

CONGRATULATIONS to the ladies of Riding Mill WI who will be celebrating its 87th birthday with a wine and cheese evening in the parish hall on Thursday, February 4, at 7.30pm.

Craig Mitchell will be talking about different wines, which can be sampled. Members should note that visitors from other WIs will not be attending and you do not need to bring food.

You are, however, allowed to bring a friend for whom there will be a small charge.

If you have information you wish to share or a story to tell in our village notes, please contact me via email pampryor@btinternet.com or telephone (01434) 682927.
