AS I prepare the village notes for this week, the drama club performances have yet to begin, but you just need to have witnessed the hours of preparation that have gone into building the set and rehearsing, to know that we have a treat in store this weekend.

THE Northumbria Healers will be available in the Millennium Hall tomorrow, while the drama club is in the parish hal, so do pop in to see Liz Weir, Pam Down and the team from 2pm until 4pm.

AS SUNDAY, November 29, is the first Sunday of Advent, traditionally many of you will be starting to think of decorating your homes for Christmas, especially the tree.

Feidlim and Penny MacLoughlin, at Beauclerc, advise that there are not a lot of smaller trees left. However, they are happy if people cut larger trees down to size and only pay for a smaller tree. How kind is that?

They will leave a notice on the gate and hope you have fun making your selection.

ALSO in the spirit of Christmas, gifts for Cornerstone are being collected for delivery to the most vulnerable in society.

If you would like to donate a gift for an adult, please deliver this to the Sunday morning services at St James’s or at the Methodist chapel on Sunday, December 6, or contact Susan Law Tel. (01434) 682397, or Christine Andersen Tel. (01434) 682535. I will remind you again next week.

THE lunch and art exhibition/sale to raise money for the British Red Cross Syria Crisis Appeal takes place on Sunday, December 6, from 11am until 4pm.

Tickets are available from Janet Proud Tel. (01434) 682393, or Barbara Thompson Tel. (01434) 682308 and include a two-course meal with wine and musical entertainment.

THE choral society concert takes place on Saturday, December 19, at 7.30pm. Tickets can be booked via the website http://ridingmillchoral.org.uk or ring secretary Val Barnes Tel. (01661) 843787. Further details to follow nearer the time.

THE annual New Year’s Eve ceilidh band is booked. To reserve your seats, or book a table, please contact me by email – pampryor@btinternet.com or Tel. (01434) 682927.
