A GRADUATE from Riding Mill is preparing to cycle the length of Great Britain.

Daniel Humble (21) will be starting his cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats next Wednesday.

He will be taking on the gruelling route alongside two friends, Simon Green and Angus Lee.

Daniel and his flatmate Simon had the idea last year and have been trying to cram in training ever since.

“We have done as much cycling as possible and have been running and swimming as well,” Daniel explained.

The group expects to take 10 days, cycling 100 miles a day and they hope to reach John O’Groats on Saturday, September 3.

Daniel is no stranger to long-distance cycling trips; earlier this year he cycled 500 miles in six days.

He added: “I am a keen cyclist and wanted to do Land’s End to John O’Groats because it’s the ultimate endurance test, it’s the furthest you can go in the UK.

“This will be the furthest I have ever cycled and I’m definitely looking forward to it. It will be good to see new roads and new places to explore. Point to point cycles are always good fun.”

The group are raising money for Melanoma Focus, a charity which commissions and funds innovative melanoma research while providing support and information for patients, carers and healthcare professionals.

So far, Daniel has raised £800 which is well on his way towards his £1,000 target. He said: “We knew we wanted to do something for a skin cancer charity and thought that Melanoma Focus stood out the most.”

Daniel has just graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in Mathematics.
