RUTH Owen, of the First Heddon on the Wall Guides, has been awarded her Baden Powell Badge, which is the highest award any girl can achieve in Guides (before going on to the senior section where they can take their Queen’s Guide badge).

Throughout the process, the group of girls complete 10 challenges in five different areas – healthy lifestyles, global awareness, discovery skills, relationships and celebrating diversity.

To complete their badge, Guides take part in a Baden Powell adventure camp with other girls from around the county.

Ruth’s Baden Powell adventure was at the Dukeshouse Wood activity centre outside Hexham, where she was the only girl from Tynedale East.

Ruth had to lots of physical challenges during the weekend, including abseiling and doing a zip-wire. The leaders of the group are extremely proud of her.

THIS weekend, Heddon St Andrews FC have another cup final on Sunday as they face Prudhoe Social FC at Haydon Bridge in what is expected to be a highly-contested game.

The management and players would welcome many Heddon residents to come along and support our local team with a kick off time of 10.30am.
