LADIES at Stocksfield Golf Club handed over a cheque for more than £1,700 to Parkinson’s UK in support of one of their members.

When Jen Langrish became ladies’ captain in March last year, she selected Parkinson’s UK as the nominated charity – kicking off a year of fund-raising events.

One of the members, Deirdre Richards, has Parkinson’s Disease, spurring the group on to support one of their own.

They gathered for a casino night at the club, afternoon teas, cake decoration demonstrations and a beetle drive, all to raise the funds which were handed over to Parkinson’s UK last week.

Regional fund-raiser Suzanne McKenna came along to the club to receive a cheque for £1,704 for the charity on Wednesday, March 8.

Jen Langrish said: “We have done lots of things over the past 12 months to raise money.

“One of our members was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and I thought that it would be quite nice to do it for something that affects one of us.

“She was part of the fund-raising and helped throughout which was fantastic.

“We didn’t go into it thinking we would raise that amount and everybody has been amazing in helping us raise it. It is fantastic.

“We got a message from Suzanne McKenna, the regional fund-raiser, thanking us for our help. It’s good to know we’ve helped.”
