Mowden Hall pupil Lydia Wilson topped 460 aspiring artists to win the 2016 Art Education Prize.
Last autumn four year six pupils entered the Specialist Crafts Art Education Prize national competiton.
And Lydia, just 10 when she created her painting, was named as one of 10 finalists in the contest organised by the art, craft and design materials supplier.
A few weeks ago she joined the other finalists to spend the day with Jenny Muncaster and the Specialist Crafts team for an artist’s workshop in Birmingham. And just last week Lydia, the youngest competitor by three years, was declared the winner.
Head of art at Mowden Hall, Mrs Morrill said: “I am so proud and excited for Lydia.
“Lydia is a joy to work with; she drinks up advice, is super keen, and enjoys attending the art clubs available at Mowden.
“We are already busy working on next year’s competition entry.”
Lydia’s prize includes a visit from Jenny Muncaster and Specialist Crafts to Mowden Hall where they will spend a day working with pupils.
Headteacher Neal Bailey said: “The combination of an inspiring art teacher, excellent facilities and endless artistic opportunities for the pupils, allowed us to promote art as a vitally important element of the holistic education we strive to offer at Mowden Hall.
“Lydia’s success will inspire other young artists in the school and we are all incredibly proud of her for this stunning achievement.”
