YOUNGSTERS in Prudhoe have had their say on their play area as plans to renovate Eastwood park move forward.

Pupils at Adderlane First School and Highfield Middle School took part in a consultation exercise, earmarking what they would like to see in their new-look play park.

The state of play areas in Eastwood Park has been a concern to local residents for a number of years.

Last February the town council earmarked £30,000 in its asset reserve fund to regenerate the facilities.

At last week’s meeting of Prudhoe Town Council, chairman and town mayor, Coun. Jennifer McGee told the meeting that Northumberland County Council had pledged £50,000 towards the anticipated £95,000 cost.

And county councillor, Tony Reid will contribute the remaining £15,000 from his member’s allowance.

A public consultation event was held last September, and recently children took part in a design exercise.

The results were discussed at a January meeting between town councillors, countryside and green spaces manager, Mike Jeffrey, west area green spaces officer, Sam Talbot and central area manager for neighbourhood services, Stephen Wardle.

The children expressed a strong interest in a timber multi-play feature with different levels, roofs and a large tube slide.

Preference was also given to brightly coloured play equipment and picnic tables.
