CHILDREN at a Prudhoe school received the thumbs up from star judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry as they produced cakes in aid of charity.

Joining in with the World‘s Biggest Coffee Morning to raise funds for MacMillan Cancer Support, Adderlane First School hosted their own Great British Bake Off before selling off the goods.

And there were masks of well-known Bake Off presenters Hollywood and Berry approving of the great work of all involved, the children scoring highly for their charitable efforts.

Residents at Tanner‘s Row sheltered housing complex, in Hexham, raised close to £500 as they invited their families and members of the community to raise a cup with them.

Meanwhile, staff at Boots, in Hexham, have raised over £1,000 with donations still coming in for their various fundraisers in store.

In addition to a raffle, book stall and tombola, staff members Maureen Benson, Paula Doyle, Norma Hardy, Anne Hazon, Wendy Nisbet, Alanna Millar, Charlotte Murray, Marjorie Marran, Sara Steel and Leanne Pearson were sponsored for walking the 10 miles from Hexham to Stocksfield.

They were joined on their trek by Maureen’s 11-year-old daughter Amy Harding, and Nick Abrahams.

As part of the supermarket‘s national support for the fundraiser, M&S Hexham invited customers to join in with their coffee morning with a percentage of sales going to the charity.

There were events across the district with business, schools and members of the public all contributing to the community coffee moening held in Heddon WI Hall.

Local BBC weather presenter Paul Mooney judged the cake making competition held at Brocksbushes Farm during their coffee morning, while an event was also held at Wylam Institute.
