VILLAGERS in Wylam will put on their hats to raise money for brain tumour research next week.

After a successful event last year, almost the whole village will once again take part in Wylam Wears a Hat next Thursday to mark Brain Tumour Awareness Month.

One of the organisers, Viv Smith, said businesses, schools, and organisations in the village were all getting involved in the event.

The village school is encouraging children to wear hats to school on Wednesday, their last day of term, while on Thursday, the library will host a hat-themed story time at 2pm and craft session from 4pm.

The Ship Inn will serve a hat-themed cocktail and the Wood Oven will name a pizza for the day.

Many more businesses are proposing to get involved and all businesses in the village have agreed to host collection tins.

Viv, who is organising the event along with Emily Surash said: “We are just trying to get as many people wearing hats as possible. It was a lovely atmosphere last year and so many people got involved, so hopefully we can recreate that.”
