THE bells of St Oswin’s Church were all cast on October 10, 1885.

To mark the 130th anniversary, a ‘quarter peal’ will be rung tomorrow at 7pm.

ON Wednesday at 10.30am, in the Methodist foyer, Men at Home will hear Brian Young talk about The Geology of Hadrian’s Wall Country.

ON Thursday, October 15, at 7.30pm in the Institute, the Gardeners’ Society will hear Gary McDermot of Harperley Hall, Durham, talk about designing a garden for Chelsea.

ON Saturday, October 17, there’s the orchard’s apple squeezing session to be held in Wylam library, Falcon Centre, from 10am to noon.

Have a taste of the fruit they have harvested and lots of apple-related fun, while you are buying your bread from the Artisan Baking Community.

ON the evening of Saturday, October 17, the film club is showing The Imitation Game with Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightly.

This gripping thriller tells the story of the life of codebreaker Alan Turing and his key role in breaking the German Enigma Code during the Second World War.

It is not just a thriller, but contains poignant personal stories and displays the attitudes and values of the era which destroyed so many lives.

There are several remarkable performances in this film, which came very close to Oscar success.

THE village quiz last Wednesday made a profit of £370, which is to go towards the Christian Aid Refugee Appeal.
