SUMMER may be nearing its end but next weekend, its sweet scents and warm colours will fill Prudhoe once more.

Those adept with the trowel and secateurs will troop to Prudhoe Town Show tomorrow and Sunday.

The event at Prudhoe and District Service Club will mark the show’s 52nd year.

Originally known as the Prudhoe Gardeners’ Association Show, the celebration of horticulture is ranked highly in the district for leading flower and vegetable growers.

It is the only show in the Tyne Valley that presents medals on behalf of the national societies of dahlia, rose, chrysanthemum and vegetable growers.

As well as floral and vegetable classes, the show attracts healthy competition in handicrafts, home baking and children’s sections.

Entries to all classes must be made by 12pm and staged by 12.30pm on the Saturday, before judges sweep in to make their decisions during the afternoon.

After the judging has taken place, both competitors and visitors can browse the stands to enjoy the display of local produce and skill from 5.30pm to 8pm on Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sunday.

At 2.45pm on Sunday, the winners will be presented with their prizes. The ceremony will be followed by an auction of the produce.

The event is free of charge to both competitors and visitors.
