THE cheerful choir at Prudhoe West Academy sang their way to first place at intu Metrocentre's choir competition last Thursday.

Choirs from schools and singing groups across the North-East performed in the shopping centre last week, before judges decided on the final six to go through to Thursday's final.

Each choir performed their own version of Jingle Bells as well as a song of their choice.

Prudhoe West's choir, made up of 88 children aged between five and nine, chose "Love's not just for Christmas," which has been dubbed "the happiest Christmas song ever."

They secured joint first place along with Percy Hedley Foundation at Northern Counties School, which makes this the second year the Prudhoe West choir has won intu Metrocentre's Christmas choir of the year.

Teacher at Prudhoe West Academy, Katie Gregson, who set up the choir, said: "This is incredible - I’m bursting with pride. This is the best and loudest the children have ever sang.

"I’m so proud of each and every one of them."
