A PRUDHOE woman has been recognised for dedicating 25 years as a volunteer to St Oswald’s Hospice.

Sonia Taylor is just one of an army of volunteers with the Newcastle-based charity, which provides support for people across the North-East living with an incurable condition, and their families.

The retired Prudhoe Community High School administrator is a familiar face at the charity’s shop in Blaydon.

“It was my auntie, Iris Blacker, who asked me to help her out at a church jumble sale for the charity one day and I’ve been involved ever since,” explained Sonia.

Over the years she has helped at jumble sales and car boot sales, and been a sales assistant at charity shops in Byker and Whickham. She was presented with a bouquet and commemorative pin badge.
