YOUNGSTERS in Wylam could be set to benefit from a new skate park in their village.

A petition was presented to Wylam Parish Council by a young resident in October asking for a skating facility to be introduced in the village.

Wylam Community Playing Field Association Committee has since taken on the idea and is applying for funding. WCPFA believes that an area for skateboarding and BMX use would be ideal to fill the space adjacent to the multi-use games area at the Jubilee Field.

Councillors at Wylam parish council have unanimously approved the scheme, while WCPFA is consulting with youngsters in the village – which they say has gained a positive response.

It is hoped the scheme, which is expected to cost in the region of £42,000, will be funded through a mixture of community grants and fund-raising activities carried out by WCPFA.
