TWELVE months ago this week, Ovingham’s troubles were just beginning.

The village was hit hard by the savage force of Storm Desmond, with many houses flooded and roads closed. Holiday chalets at Ferry Landing were swept into the swollen river.

Ovingham Scout hut was submerged in 10ft of flood water. And in the weeks that followed, it was flooded another three times as Whittle Dene burst its banks.

As well as the Ovingham Scouts, the hut is the home of the Badger Club providing vital childcare before and after school hours.

In the months that followed, the community rallied together, raising thousands of pounds to refurbish the Scout hut. And with the help of volunteers, donations and organisations lending their support, the hut is now back in action.

Ovingham Scout hut will be officially opened at a ceremony from 6.30pm on Monday, December 12.
