TIN Lizzie, Mr Wrong and Woody from Toy Story paid a visit to Ovington on Saturday.
For the characters were all entries in a children’s scarecrow competition staged by food co-operative GO Local, to coincide with World Book Day.
The third event of its kind, the competition heralds the co-operative’s spring planting programme and the winner – Tin Lizzie, created by Prudhoe Castle First School pupil, George Knutson – was announced at Hall’s of Heddon garden centre.
Also among the contenders were Mr Wrong, made by Sammy and Anna Hodgson, Woody from Toy Story, created by Declan Quinn and Kronos, a character from the author Michelle Paver’s children’s series, Gods and Warriors, which had been made by Robbie Black.
GO Local is a community supported agricultural scheme which works to provide fresh, locally grown, affordable vegetables to the Tyne Valley.
It grows 40 varieties of organic produce, 10 months of the year and uses scarecrows to keep birds off the crops.
