A BUSY pedestrian crossing in Prudhoe is to become more user-friendly.

The crossing outside of Reflections Hair and Beauty Salon on Front Street will be made into a puffin style crossing in the new year.

Puffin crossings detect pedestrians in the waiting area, and also while they are crossing the road.

If pedestrians are crossing slowly the sensors can hold the red traffic light longer.

Speaking on Tuesday, Coun. Gordon Stewart said: “I was at a Northumberland County Blind Association meeting this morning and it will be better for those people because they haven’t got to hurry across the road.

“It will be very helpful for people with disabilities and eyesight issues. I am delighted about that.”
