Friends of Prudhoe Woods will hold their next meeting on Thursday, February 11, at 7.30pm in the creche at Waterworld.

This month’s guest speaker will be Louise Hislop, who will give a talk on The Introduction to Bees and Wasps, with particular reference to the special burrowing bees on top of the Spetchells. All are welcome. There is a £1 cover charge for refreshments.

There are busy bees inside the Spetchells Centre too. In the council chambers, the town council is pushing for a new bridge to be built linking Prudhoe to Ovingham instead of the incessant repairs to the old one.

They are asking for people to write to MP Guy Opperman with their views. If there is a petition going, please get copies into the shops so that everyone can sign it.

The next Prudhoe market will be tomorrow in the Glade. It will continue to be held on the first Saturday of every month after that.

Prudhoe Methodist luncheon club is on the first floor of the church hall on West Road at noon on Friday, February 12.

The ladies of the friendship group serve soup and a sweet with tea or coffee. All are welcome.

There is also a food bank running in the church hall on Friday mornings from 10am until noon.

Prudhoe Community Choir meets on Wednesdays at 7.45pm during term time in Stocksfield Baptist Church.

This is a mixed choir which sings popular choral pieces and medleys from current shows, amongst other things.

It performs at local events throughout the year and new members are always welcome.

The Fuse is showing The Lady in the Van again, back by popular request.

It is at 4pm on Thursday, February 11. Concessions apply for 12/15 year olds, over 60s and students for this performance. Tickets are on sale now at the box office.

Shrove Tuesday is on February 9 this year and all the local shops have offers on for this occasion.

Of course, this also means that Lent and Easter will be early this year too. Has anyone heard a cuckoo yet?
