STATION Bank in Prudhoe was closed on Saturday after a two-car crash.
Police said a white Kia Rio and a red Peugeot 308 collided at the junction with Castle Road at just before 1pm.
Fire crews were called to the scene and the elderly male driver of one of the cars was cut free.
The Great North Air Ambulance was called to the scene and landed on a grass verge between Castle Road and Western Avenue.
Chief pilot, Jay Steward, said: "Every air ambulance call out presents its own set of challenges because it's not often we land on preset sites."
Air ambulance medics worked with the North East Ambulance Service to treat the man at the scene before he was taken by road to the Northumbria Hospital in Cramlington suffering from chest pain.
The road was re-opened at 2.45pm.
