COUNCILLORS in Prudhoe have rejected hopes for a wood-fired pizza van to trade in the town.

Ross Keady, of Fire and Dough, had contacted Prudhoe Town Council asking whether The Glade in Prudhoe would be a suitable place to sell pizza from a converted van once a week.

He suggested that the van, when fully set up, would visit different towns and villages in Northumberland on evenings throughout the week.

Northumberland County Council’s market manager Neil Brown said that, because the business wished to trade regularly each week, the town council’s opinion would influence the final decision on the application.

However, town councillors questioned whether it would be of any benefit to the town when they discussed the issue at their monthly town council meeting Wednesday, March 28.

“We already have quite a lot of food outlets in Prudhoe who already pay business rates,” said Coun. Russ Greig.

Coun. Jennifer McGee agreed, adding: “We already get complaints about food outlets and coffee places in Prudhoe.”

Coun. Holly Kelleher said: “We have already got problems with anti-social behaviour. I just see it as a lot of litter.”

Councillors agreed to politely decline the offer, on the basis that the town already had sufficient food outlets.
