TWO groups from Prudhoe’s University of the Third Age have come together to organise a creative exhibition in the town’s Spetchells Centre.

The photography group and the creative writing group have combined their talents to create the Words and Pictures exhibition.

It involved the U3A photography group, consisting of a dozen or so photographers, taking pictures in and around Prudhoe of varying landscapes and objects.

The creative writing group, which has 10 members, each chose pictures to take on and use as an inspiration for a short story.

A reception was held at the Spetchells Centre last Monday, hosted by George Hepburn, chairman of Prudhoe Community Partnership, which runs the centre, in recognition of all their hard work.

Pam Stott, leader of the creative writing group and secretary of the Prudhoe and District U3A committee, said: “We put so much work into it.

“It was about May time when we got the idea, and by the time the photographs were taken, and the writers did their bit, and we put everything together, it took a long time.

“We’re really proud of the result and we are featured in the national U3A magazine.

“I think we may have inspired other U3As to do similar things, which is a great thing.”

The pictures are set up on boards around the room, while the stories are displayed in brochures for people to read as they walk around, or to sit down and browse through at their leisure.

The display will be open for public viewing in room 2 at the Prudhoe Spetchells Centre during library opening hours until December 7.
