A PRUDHOE business owner has spoken out after the entrance to his business was painted over with double yellow lines.

Staff at motor services company Glendinning, on Princess Way, were shocked when Northumberland County Council staff painted the double yellow lines straight across the entrance to its forecourt on Wednesday.

The county council had been refreshing the road markings on Princess Way.

Michael Glendinning said: “When it happened, we couldn’t believe it. It attracted a bit of a crowd because it looks so ridiculous.

“We are one of the oldest businesses in Prudhoe; we’re over 100 years old and have been on this site for nearly 50 years.

“We have had people who have not wanted to cross and have ended up driving away.

“The council said they would investigate immediately, but they have effectively put a closed sign outside of our business.”

A Northumberland Council spokesman said: “The lines do conform to legal requirements.

“However we have taken on board the comments of the business and reviewed them, and will be removing the line at the junction.”
