POLICE say they are clamping down on disorderly youngsters in Prudhoe after a series of reports of anti-social behaviour.

Last week, there were reports of youth disorder in and around Waterworld, as well as damage caused to a fence on Cameron Road.

There were also reports of damage to vehicles in Victoria Road and Castlefields Drive on Saturday night.

This came just weeks after the public toilets at Road Ends were damaged for the second time since they were reopened after a refurbishment in August.

County councillor for Prudhoe South, Coun. Gordon Stewart, said: “There’s been a huge amount of damage recently.

“We’ve got meetings planned with the police to see how we can tackle the problem.

“People are coming forward and telling us about damage, but it hasn’t always been reported, so I would urge anybody to report this type of thing to the police.”

Police say officers have been carrying out regular patrols in the town over the weekend to reassure the local community.

Neighbourhood Inspector Pam Bridges said: “Dispersal notices are being utilised in the town and anyone found to be involved in anti-social behaviour will be directed to leave the area and won’t be able to return for 24 hours.

“Officers will continue to carry out regular patrols and I would urge anyone who is concerned to stop and speak to an officer.

“All of the incidents that have been reported to us will be investigated and action taken against those responsible,.

“If anyone has any information that may be able to help us in our inquiries, then we would urge them to get in contact.”
