CONSULTATION will soon begin on plans for a major overhaul of children’s play areas in a Prudhoe park.

The parlous state of play areas in Eastwood Park has long been a concern for councillors and local residents alike for a number of years.

The park in West Wylam is in a state of disrepair, plagued by dog mess and broken play equipment.

In February this year the town council agreed to earmark £30,000 to help matters .

The council, which does not own the park, put the money aside in anticipation of renovation projects.

And following a meeting between town councillors and Emma Evans, the parks development officer for owners Active Northumberland, on August 8 it seems that progress is being made.

A number of play providers have been contacted regarding the regeneration of the play facilities.

And it was suggested that a public consultation take place to learn what people would like to see on other areas at the southern end of the park.

Further information is being sought following the suggestion of creating a separate area for dogs, which could feature dog agility equipment.

A consultation event is planned to take place at the park pavilion on September 12 from 3.30pm to 6.30pm.

And it has been suggested that evaluation of the public consultation should take place before the end of October this year. It is hoped that the park works will be completed by summer 2017.
