COUNCILLORS in Wylam are looking at options to make the village safer by installing a defibrillator.

At the last meeting of Wylam Parish Council on Monday, councillors discussed how they would finance a defibrillator.

It was agreed that Coun. Tom Appleby would contact Cardioproof CIC, an organisation aiming to improve the availability of community defibrillators across the North-East.

Members were told that Ovingham Parish Council had received support from that organisation while installing their most recent defibrillator.

Parish council chairwoman, Coun. Anne Franci,s added: “I think this would also be a good opportunity to sort out some proper CPR training.

“That is probably more likely to save a life than a defibrillator.

“We should look at getting a package with the defibrillator, including a training session.”

Councillors also agreed to ask Cardioproof CIC about the best place to install the defibrillator.

Options discussed included the village’s telephone box on Laburnum Terrace or the Jubilee Field.
