JUST as one housing development for Prudhoe is rejected, another proposal has been put forward.

An outline application has been submitted by North Associates for 50 new homes in what used to be Eltringham village.

Having started life as a thriving pit village, many houses in Eltringham were demolished in the early 1950s and all that remains today is one street, North Row, which sits next to the current Hammerite factory.

But now Cumbrian land and property company North Associates is proposing a new residential development on brownfield land ‘adjacent to Eltringham Works.’

A letter posted through the doors of North Row residents states that up to 30 per cent of the houses could be affordable dwellings for occupation by qualifying local people.

A spokesman from North Associates said: “As it stands the local council does not have the five-year housing supply required to meet current demand in the local area without developing on green belt land on the edge of Prudhoe.

“This brownfield site would be a much better solution and impact on far fewer people.”

A consultation event is to be held at the Fuse Centre in Prudhoe from 3-7pm on Tuesday September 15.

Members of the community and interested parties are encouraged to attend to discuss plans for the site with members of the project team.

There will also be the opportunity to comment on the proposals, comments will be reviewed and taken into account where possible.

A spokesman from North Associates said: “The reason for holding the public consultation is to include local residents views and opinions as to house type and size so that the development reflects local housing need.

“The development if approved will provide affordable housing in line with council policy for local people.”
