A MICKLEY woman has raised more than £1,300 for a cancer charity in memory of her mum, on what would have been her 65th birthday.

Kellie Pattinson organised a fundraiser at Prudhoe and Mickley Unionist Club for Cancer Research in memory of her mum Ann Pattinson, who passed away last October following a nine-month battle with lung cancer, which eventually travelled to her brain.

The event, held on Saturday, November 11, attracted more than 200 people and included raffles, a tombola, a magician and comedy acts, as well as musical entertainment provided by local singer Adam Lathan and China Drum, a group from Ovingham who were Ann’s favourite band.

Ann lived in Prudhoe her whole life and was known across villages in east Tynedale, where she delivered the Betterware catalogue for six years.

“It was only six weeks ago I thought I would really like to do something for my mum’s birthday,” said Kellie (36).

“She used to love the band and she loved a good dance so I thought why not host a party for her and raise money for a good cause to help in any way we can to look at getting a cure or helping with medication to make things a little bit better for other people.

“Everything that happened on the night was for her. My nana had lived next to the Tory club for all of my life and we held lots of events there like 30th and 40th birthdays.

“China Drum was her favourite band. My mum bought me a dress a few years ago and I was determined that was the dress I was going to wear – so I lost two stone in six weeks to fit into it.

“I just want to thank everybody who came along, contributed and helped on the night and everyone who made donations. It was a huge success.”

Thompsons of Prudhoe donated £100 to the charity, bringing Kellie’s total up to £1,365, and donations are still coming in.
