A JOURNEY adrift on the high seas is on the cards for a Prudhoe schoolgirl’s special message.

Laura Scott’s message in a bottle is already on the second leg of what could be an international adventure.

On January 8, eight-year-old Laura was unable to attend lessons at Prudhoe West First School due to safety concerns at the rain-damaged building.

Determined not to let the day go to waste, she and mum Angie decided to cast a message in a bottle into the River Tyne.

In the note Laura introduced herself with her age and home town and noted the day’s date.

She requested that if the bottle was found, a photograph be posted on to social media with the location where it washed up.

The bottle had to be then be cast adrift once more, to continue its journey into the wild blue yonder.

With the note carefully tied up and nestled in the bottle, Laura hurled it into the River Tyne from Ovingham Bridge. And just weeks later the bottle was found at Tynemouth Haven by staff at the Linskill Centre.

Posting their discovery on their Facebook page, the staff wrote: “The bottle will be sent on its way in the next few days, with a note added from everyone at the Linskill Centre.”

Laura, who has a brother Joseph (10) said: “I couldn’t go to school that day so me and mum were thinking of something we could do instead. “I thought it would be fun, I wanted to see if anyone would find it. I was hoping it might go all the way to America.

“When we heard that it was found, I was really excited because I never thought anyone would find it.”

Mum Angie, a nursing assistant at Hexham General Hospital, said: “I just thought it would be a bit of fun, something to do on Laura’s day off school.

“I didn’t honestly think we would hear back. I thought it was long gone.

“I was as excited as Laura when it was found. I hope it continues on its journey, it’ll be exciting to find out where it gets to next.”
