A PRUDHOE schoolgirl has a cool new look just in time for summer after losing a foot of hair for a good cause.

Imogen Thorndycraft-Park had her last haircut six years ago, but last week, she returned to the hairdresser’s chair.

The 12-year-old had 12 inches of her long brown hair cut off to be donated to the Little Princess Trust.

The charity provides real-hair wigs, free of charge, to children in the UK and Ireland who have lost their hair through cancer treatment.

Fed up of her long hair, Imogen, a pupil at Highfield Middle School, decided that if she were to get it cut, she might as well support a good cause at the same time.

So on Tuesday, July 12, local hairdresser Kelly Hall visited the family’s Prudhoe home with her scissors in tow.

Minutes later, Imogen was presented with her 12 inch plait, and a brand new look.

Proud mum Vanessa said: “I was nervous for Imogen, but she was great.

“She was excited but got a bit nervous when she could see the hair coming off.

“She said she could feel the scissors snipping then suddenly her hair fell around her ears and her plait was handed to her.

“But she loves her new graduated bob style, especially in this hot weather.

“Kelly was fantastic, she’s been our hairdresser for years and we wouldn’t have wanted anyone else to do it.”

Imogen’s haircut has so far raised £200 for the Little Princess Trust through sponsorship forms at Highfield Middle School and online donations.
