THE harvest service will be setting up in church tomorrow from 10am.

All produce will go to the People’s Kitchen, whose wish list includes tinned and dry food, tea bags, instant coffee, drinking chocolate and cordials. Cleaning materials, toiletries and clothing would also be gratefully accepted.

Horsley Church service will be on Sunday, October 4, at 6pm, led by the Rev. John Paul.

All are welcome to our harvest celebration. The service will be followed by supper. There will be no morning service.

SEVERAL residents, as well as the parish council, are concerned about dog fouling in and around the village, it was reported at the recent parish council meeting.

To this effect, polite notices have been posted to householders to inform them about the problem and ask that they clean up after their animals. A new litter bin is being purchased for Mill Way. The parish council thanked residents who regularly pick up litter in and around the village.

SEVERAL gravestones in Ovingham burial ground have been vandalised with spray paint. Horsley village has no burial ground of its own, and Ovingham is offered as an alternative.

FRANK Brennan and Terry Mulligan were thanked by Coun. Senior for putting a new seat beside the eastbound bus stop opposite South Farm.

Councillors were also grateful to Terry for the display of flowers around the entrance to Cherrytree Gardens.

SEVERAL residents, as well as members of the parish council, are concerned about the lack of cooperation between the village and Northumbrian Water.

Nothing has been done to reduce light pollution, clear the culvert at the bottom of Croft Lane, remove one of the silos or slow traffic in Mill Way.

The trees and vegetation that were planted to hide the water works from the village during previous developments have been unsuccessful.

Those trees that did survive as a screening are to be removed during the next phase of construction, due to commence in 2016.

It has been suggested that works traffic should not be allowed to pass through the village during the construction period and that some tall, fast-growing trees be used to screen the village from the works.

The new development plans are available on the parish council and Northumbrian Water websites.

There will be a village meeting hosted by Northumbrian Water to allow residents to comment on the plans.

The next meeting of the parish council is scheduled for Monday, November 16.
