A CHARITY worker from Prudhoe has received an invitation to next month’s Royal Wedding.

Hannah Underwood, chief executive of Gateshead-based charity The Key, will be among a select band of 100 charity representatives at Windsor Castle when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tie the knot on May 19.

She will be joined by colleague Victoria Dunn, who is deputy chief executive of the charity, which helps young people across the North-East to develop their confidence and skills.

“It was a big surprise to receive an invitation letter,” said mum-of-one Hannah, who has led the charity for 13 years.

“At this stage we have no idea what to wear, but it is a tremendous honour to be invited, both for us and our charity.”

Hannah said the invitation followed a visit by the Lord Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear, Susan Winfield, the Queen’s representative in the area.

She explained: “The Lord Lieutenant came and met some of the young people we have worked with, and I think she was impressed.

“I’m sure that the work we do is something close to the hearts of the Royal family.”

Originally from Cheshire, Hannah moved to the North-East in 1997, and has lived in Prudhoe for four years.

Victoria, of South Shields, who has worked for the charity for two years said: “Mrs Winfield put forward Hannah for an invitation, and for me to go as her guest.

“We are privileged to be going and it will be very special and memorable to be part of Prince Harry and Meghan’s big day.”

Hannah and Victoria will arrive at Windsor Castle between 9am and 9.30am on May 19.

They will watch the midday ceremony, which will take place inside St George’s Chapel at Windsor, from a screen in the castle grounds.

They will be joined by representatives of other organisations, school children, Royal household members, and Windsor residents.
