THE FUTURE of a Wylam GP surgery is under question due to proposed changes to the service by the NHS.

Concerns have been raised in the village that the Riversdale practice could close.

And this week the Woodcroft Road practice confirmed that it had been in discussions with NHS England and NHS Northumberland Clinical Commissioning Group about changes to its current service.

Riversdale practice said that it was unable to discuss any proposals in detail until after the General Election, due to purdah. However, a spokesman from the surgery said that no decision would be taken without a consultation exercise.

“Discussions are in the very early stages and no decision has been taken,” he said.

“Should any changes be proposed, a period of engagement would always take place where patients would be encouraged to give their feedback, which would inform any final decisions. As always, we are committed to ensuring that patients continue to receive high quality, safe and sustainable care now and into the future.”
